As a passion project, Cablefied has been under development for quite some time, and it is now ready for its first release. As a one-man project, I set out to develop a complete solution for beginners and enthusiasts to research, design, and share their own custom sleeved PC cable sets. The idea is backed by countless hours crafting my own PC cables. As a result, I hope the configurator is able to replicate the experiences one might encounter when designing and developing their own cables.

The configurator

The heart of the Cablefied project revolves around the configurator. Built from the ground up by creators, for creators, the configurator features a growing collection of sleeving options, comb colors, connector colors, and individual cable types. For sleeving, the Cablefied configurator is launching with solid and variegated paracord colors. Patterns are grouped by solids and their specific pattern styles, and will continue to expand as time moves forward. Comb colors and connector options will also continue to grow in the future depending on applicable scenarios.

One of the primary concerns I had when developing was the impact of losing your design by refreshing the page, or navigating somewhere else and coming back later. To ensure this does not happen, your entire cable set is saved locally to your browser, so any time you refresh the page, visit another page, or come back later, your cable set will still be there. Just be sure not to clear all of Cablefied‘s website data when you close your browser, or else it will be reset back to the default configuration. This can be adjusted in your browser settings.

A majority of the cable types one might encounter when crafting their own sleeved PC cables are available at launch. Specialty options such as two, or three, 8 pin PCI-E cables combined in singular combs are also present for customizing. The newer 12VHPWR cable, while available to design, may undergo changes depending on initial user feedback.

To complete the Cablefied configurator, I thought it would be neat to add the ability to share your creations with others. For example, if you just created a unique blue and black color pattern with starry night paracord and wanted to share it with your friend, you can simply click the share button, paste the url in a text message or on social media, and it will automatically apply your design in your friend’s browser. How cool, right?

Power supply compatibility and pinouts

Another aspect of custom sleeved PC cables are the pinouts, and interchangeability of cables between series, brands, and wattages. I wanted to create a centralized location to display the units I have previously worked with to reference when making cables, as well as other units brands might list as compatible themselves. As a result, a majority of the content is verified, but there might be an individual power supply or wattage I have not tested myself to guarantee compatibility. Over time, further refinements will be made to the compatibility pages based on community support and additional testing.

The journal

In addition to the configurator and compatibility pages, I plan to write journal entries from time to time related to custom sleeved PC cables, power supplies, and my time building Cablefied. I also hope to provide insight into questions or concepts others may not regularly consider with regard to crafting PC cables for the first time.

What the future holds

I look forward to building, polishing, and adding new features. While currently a passion project, Cablefied is always open to color recommendations, feature requests, and general feedback. The best way to reach out, at the moment, is to send a message on social media. I am excited to see the designs created, and hope Cablefied is able to provide that first step into getting more PC builders into the world of custom sleeved PC cables.
